I developed this fly over two decades ago to match the almost clear Mysis shrimp in the Frying Pan River. The egg yarn becomes very milky when wet and mimics the natural like no other material I’ve found. I have tried many types of dubbing for the thorax but have always returned to my original egg yarn dubbing as it is not shiny and has a real life-like appearance in the water. The rubber leg eyes add a touch of realism and are so easy they’re hard to pass up. Charlie’s Mysis is very durable, amazingly simple to tie, uses readily available materials and works better than live bait. This fly doesn’t look very impressive in the hand but is the best pattern I’ve ever found for tough trout in Mysis rivers. Others agree with this fact also, as it has been the top Mysis pattern in all the shops I’ve ever tied it for. I guarantee this fly works.
